Cheviots Challenge Route 2007
Saturday 25th August 2007

Last year we had 267 people particpating in the long and short routes. This raised £3300 for the Team. We thank you all.

The short route ( a mere 18 miles! ) is now a regular feature. In some ways, both routes may be familar to past participants. Finding new routes still challenges our organisers but we have devised a route that we believe equally challenging as in previous years.

As usual, the 2007 Cheviots Challenge starts and finishes at the Rose and Thistle Alwinton in Upper Coquetdale. For both routes, walkers and fell runners start by walking or running, to Copper Snout, Bloodybush Edge and Davidson's Linn. It is here where the routes part.

>For the "long route" particpants continue up to Windy Gyle ( the scene of mysterious doings in the 1700's! ) and if the weather is good, fine views into Scotland and Northumberland can be had. From here it is down hill using The Street ( an old Roman road ) visiting Fairhaugh on the way to Clennell Street and returning to Alwinton.

For the "short route" participants leave Davidson's Linn making their way to Alwinton via Clennell Street. All routes end with a gentle descent into Alwinton, where friendly smiles await and a thirst quenching pint of ale served by Jean or her daughter, the landlady of the Rose and Thistle.

Should you need to brush up on your navigational skills, then use the computer presentation, which is available as a free download from the Ordance Survey. There is, of course, no substitute in being outdoors with a map and compass in your hand!

For further details of the route for 2007 please contact our information hot line address.

Have a nice day!
