Cheviots Challenge Route 2005
Saturday 27th August 2005

Last year saw the introduction of a long and short route. This was very successful. Regular participants will see the short routs as a regular feature. In some ways, both routes may be familar to previous events. Finding new routes after 24 years is rather difficult, but still equally challenging. However, as usual, the 2005 Cheviots Challenge starts and finishes at theRose and Thistle Alwinton in Upper Coquetdale. For both routes, walkers and fell runners start by walking or running, to Gills Law then High Bleakhope and onto the Salters Road.. It is here where the routes part. For the "long route" particpants make their way along Salters Road to the Breamish Head. Then on to Kings Seat and return to Alwinton via Clennell Street.. For the "short route", participants make their way along the Salters Road and up onto Bloodybush Edge, were if the weather is fine, good views can be had.. All routes end with a gentle stroll down Clennell Street into Alwinton, where friendly smiles await and a thirst quenching pint of ale served by Jean or her daughter, the landlady of the Rose and Thistle.

Should you need to brush up on your navigational skills, then use the computer presentation, which is available as a free download from the Ordance Survey. There is, of course, no substitute in being outdoors with a map and compass in your hand!

Have a nice day!
