CHEVIOTS CHALLENGE.

ROUTE 2002.

Saturday 24thAugust 2002.

As usual, the 2002 Cheviots Challenge starts and finishes at Alwinton in Upper Coquetdale. Walkers and fell runners start by walking up Clennell Street and on to Wether Cairn. From Wether Cairn our route enters Kidland Forest, where there is no defined route but a choice of checkpoints, which culminate at Bloodybush Edge. Windy Gyle then follows. You are now well over half way to completion and the route is generally down hill, but for climbs on to Middle Hill, Shillhope Law and then down to Shillmoor. The route ends with a gentle stroll into Alwinton, where friendly smiles await and a thirst quenching pint of ale served by the Jean, the landlady of the Rose and Thistle.

Participants will recognise some of these place names from last year. Hopefully this year the weather will be such that you can see where you are going!

Should you need to brush up on your navigational skills, then use the computer presentation, which is available as a free download from the Ordance Survey. There is of course no substitute in being outdoors with a map and compass in your hand!

Have a nice day!
