21 years of the Cheviots Challenge.

This was the message that greeted particpants in 2001.

It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of this year's Cheviots Challenge due to the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease.

Although we hope that the outbreak will soon be controlled, the lingering consequences of the disease mean that we are unable to organise and run the event.

Although the disease has, so far, not been reported in the Upper Coquetdale, we have decided to give the farmers every chance to overcome and re-establish themselves and their community and not impose upon their generosity by seeking permission to organise the event on their land.

We are sure all our supporters will understand our decision.

For participants who have already entered for this year's event you can:-

(a) obtain a refund,

(b) inform our secretary to carry forward your entry to 2002 ( any cheques will have to be cashed now ),

(c) have your entry forwarded to the Rescue Team as a donation.

Please contact our secretary of your decision.

We will be back in 2002 and will update our web site with details for next year's event.
